Genre: Classic, Historical Fiction
Format: Audiobook
Blurb
Anne's children are almost all grown up, except for spirited and fun-loving Rilla. With her sparkling hazel eyes and infectious smile, Rilla is impossible to ignore. At almost fifteen, all she can think about is going to her first dance at the Four Winds lighthouse and getting her first kiss from the handsome Kenneth Ford.
But life takes an unexpected turn when a distant war threatens their peaceful world at Ingleside. Rilla's brothers head off to fight, and she finds herself caring for an orphaned newborn she discovers in the most unlikely place—a soup tureen! Suddenly, Rilla is thrown into a whirlwind of challenges that will test her bravery and change her in ways she never imagined.
Review
This was the perfect conclusion to this series. It was wonderful to see how all of the characters were tied in and there were no loose threads. Reading about Rilla growing from an arrogant fifteen-year-old to a compassionate nineteen-year-old was so heart-warming.
And, oh my goodness, the emotional roller coaster this one took you through. Oftentimes, historical fiction books centered around a war focus on what it’s like to experience it firsthand. But I loved reading what it was like for the everyday person, about how truly everyone was affected by WWI.
This was easily my favorite book of the series and one that I could read independently of the rest. I look forward to sharing this series with my daughter once she is old enough.
