At dinner a recorded message accuses each of them in turn of having a guilty secret, and by the end of the night one of the guests is dead.
"Eight . . ."
Stranded by a violent storm, and haunted by a nursery rhyme counting down one by one . . . as one by one . . . they begin to die.
"Seven . . ."
Which among them is the killer and will any of them survive?
Review
This was a reread for the second book club pick. But, because I first read it in seventh grade (over fifteen years ago), there were many aspects about it that I had forgotten. I did remember who the killer was, but I couldn’t remember exactly how he pulled off his own death. I knew no one survived–even the title says so. Still, it was a thrilling read. I think everyone should attempt it.
As with many other books, there were several scenes that were confusing because Christie changes the characters' names throughout–meaning she’ll say their first name and then later use their last name. I with the book came with an appendix of who was who and what they did.
